  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

I'm Annabelle and I work in Reception.

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

My passion about the world of birth and midwifery led care.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

Making everyone who walks through the door feel warm and welcome.

What are your favourite things about your role?

I love getting to know clients over the course of their pregnancy to then meet their gorgeous little humans!

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

You will find me at a yoga class, the markets, in the ocean, trying to ferment something, cooking and eating with friends/family

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

I'm Keri-Ann (she/her) and I'm MAMA's Practice Manager. I'm originally from the US but fell in love with Melbourne and am almost an Australian citizen. I'm also a single mum and am finishing up a masters of social work this year.

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

I had three truly empowering pregnancy and birth experiences, which turned me into a bit of a birth groupie. When I moved to Australia and was looking for a job, I googled private midwives near me, found MAMA, and emailed them to see if they had any administrative needs. Luckily, they read the email (I now see how many emails they get!) and a small role has over time become a big one!

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

Helping to create a space that is calming and warm for our families, midwives and practitioners.

What are your favourite things about your role?

It's a bit magical I think! The energy of the amazing people who work here and the beautiful families who give us the honour of caring for them is something that I can feel when I enter the building... even when it's empty.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

You can find me reading at Princes Park under my favorite tree, in a yoga class or meditation group, or exploring new places with my kids and/or friends.

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

I'm Megan, a director at MAMA

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

I have always been driven to make a difference. I started my own business, so that I could share this passion, work professionally and still be a mum.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

My inspiration is using my business and personal experiences to help other people and businesses flourish. Through MAMA, my dream is we can ensure all families can choose to have an empowering and supported journey into parenthood.

What are your favourite things about your role?

    4. MAMA showed me that birth can be healing. After my traumatic experience for my first birth alone in a private hospital, it took me 4 years to process the impact that trauma had to my experience as a parent, relationship and ability to conceive our next baby. It was this drive that led me to MAMA where I was able to have a positive birth experience; a supported and healing VBAC for our second child.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

I love spending quality time with family and friends, having engaging and enriching conversations, celebrating the moment, riding my bike (with Ben by my side for many, many kms), hiking, traveling or enjoying the nature in beautiful Lorne.

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

I'm Ben, I'm a director and help in the back office.

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

Arguably my mother who birthed me and 4 siblings at home with a private midwife. I was 12 for my youngest sister's birth so could appreciate the wonderful role and contribution made.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

Private midwifery can be genuinely life changing so MAMA has a privileged purpose. I want to amplify the positive impact and help the team empower more families.

What are your favourite things about your role?

Naturally, the people are warm and caring so it's a wonderful work environment. As a director, I have the privilege to dream big, make long-term plans and influence the future of MAMA.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

With my families (2 primary school children), on my bike, down at Lorne!

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

I’m Kelly and I’m re-introducing myself as I am now leading MAMA into her second decade of success.

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

I was a co-founding director with Jan Ireland from 2011 for seven years before the birth of my first child. Children change your world (as many of you would know!) so in 2017 I relinquished my Directorship to Jan whilst continuing to support her, and continued working at MAMA in a caseload midwife role. As family life became easier, I returned 2 years ago to a manager/midwife support role, building sustainability into our midwifery practice to prevent burnout and to build midwife mentorship models to support early career midwives.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

My vision for MAMA as we continue to grow is that our care remains the same; that we provide loving individualised care that empowers families in their experience of pregnancy, birth and beyond. I know we have the right team to provide gold standard, empowering care. I believe the key to success for the longevity of MAMA and private midwifery practice has two important parts; the first lies in growing our mentorship program which enables passionate, early-career midwives to follow their professional dreams within an experienced, supportive team. The second, is ensuring the sustainability of the private midwifery practice model for the brilliant midwives we have and want to keep working happily for their entire careers. We do this by employing our midwives and putting supports in place such as rostered days off covered by the team and paid education days. I have seen that these small changes to the traditional sole private practitioner model has already reduced the burnout that is so common in the sole private practitioner (traditional) model. With three mentees currently working towards primary caseload care and two graduate mentorship positions available in 2025, the future of MAMA is looking bright.

What are your favourite things about your role?

Just as MAMA pioneered the first holistic private midwifery centre in Victoria, I believe our mentee program and sustainable midwifery model is the only one of its kind in Australia. I am looking towards the future of MAMA and private midwifery practice with gratitude. I am honoured to take the reins of my ‘first baby’ again and I am so grateful for the wonderful team at MAMA as we seek to support more positive transitions to parenthood for more families across Victoria.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

    Running some trails!

  • What’s your name and role at MAMA?
Ally, MAMA midwife at Gippsland and Bayside clinics

What inspired you to work at MAMA?
After my own experience of having a private midwife and homebirth I really struggled returning to work in the hospital system, especially in fragmented care. I know I was always destined to work in a continuity of care model and the birthing options that MAMA provide since I was a student midwife doing placement in a Birth Centre. Learning from these intuitive midwives planted the seed for the type of midwife I aspired to become. As the MAMA Gippsland clinic was establishing I was keen to get onboard to work with excellent midwives, we have a great team here at MAMA. I love looking after women from my own community, it’s a real village midwife vibe.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?
I enjoy the relationships built with women and families through the continuity of care model and the ability to share pregnancy, birth and postnatal knowledge through this journey. It’s really important to me that women and families know they have options and choices at every turn; informed decision making is important. I want women to achieve the birth they desire, whatever that may be or look like.

What are your favourite things about your role?
I love seeing a woman and partner as they learn and witness how incredible women’s bodies are in growing and birthing their babies then nourishing them beyond the womb.

It’s so wonderful working with such a great team of like-minded midwives we all have the same philosophy but everyone brings their own uniqueness and expertise which women benefit so much from.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?
I could lie and tell you about my hobbies pre-Mum life, but now I’m living life with a toddler in tow there’s not as much time for me!

I live on a little pocket of land with a few sheep, cows, fruit trees and hopefully some chickens soon! All these things keep me busy as well as doing house and garden improvements and dreaming about future renovations.

  • What’s your name and role at MAMA?
Hi my name is Amy. I am proudly a registered nurse, endorsed midwife, lactation consultant and counsellor.

What inspired you to work as a midwife?
I have been a midwife for over 20yrs and love it. The birth of my first son inspired me to become the midwife I am. To this day I remember my midwife and the impact she has had on my life- I want to be that support for other families.

What are you passionate about as a midwife?
I am passionate about supporting women to feel empowered, supported and in control during the birth of their babies. How you feel having your baby is important and I will support you to feel safe.

What makes MAMA special to you?
I have worked in the traditional private practice model for a long time and the support offered by everyone at MAMA is unique and special. MAMA is a group of amazing professionals working together for the families in our community.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?
When I am not working you will find me with my family, dancing with my friends or discovering remote/unique parts of Australia.

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

Hi, I’m Cally, one of the MAMA Midwives! My other important roles/titles include Wife, Mother and Catholic.

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

Initially, in high school, my goals and desires were to work with babies, throughout my studies and career, it has become so much more than that. It is a blessing to be able to work with Mothers, as they bring life into the world. The desire to wholistically care for women has brought me to my current role.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

My leading passion as a midwife is helping women achieve the birth they desire, empowering them with support and knowledge. Since my first day as a student, this has always been my goal and passion. I spent several years in the hospital system, growing my own knowledge and skills. The next step to move out of the system was a given, as to be able to wholistically care for women was not achievable there. Moving into private practice and working at MAMA has allowed me to do this.

What are your favourite things about your role?

What makes working for MAMA especially special is the team environment. We all hold similar ethics, and the entire team is supportive and giving, and are all round incredible people. I am grateful for each and every one of them, (maybe, especially the admin team!).

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

When I’m not at work, you will find me at some sort of sports! Between my 3 kids and my own sports, we have sports 7 days a week! I love playing netball and going to the gym myself and enjoy coffee dates and am growing our home garden/veggie patch to grow our own food to eat.

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

    I'm Charlotte, a MAMA midwife

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

When I was 15, I watched my own mum give birth to my baby brother at home in our loungeroom. It was one of the most profound experiences of my life, and it opened my eyes to the world of birth and midwifery. I remember looking at the midwife and thinking ‘I want her job when I grow up!’, and so ensued my own journey to becoming a midwife.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

I believe that women and birthing people can meet their most fierce and empowered selves through birth, and that the love, care and safety of a known midwife can be an integral person in achieving this. The trajectory of who I am as a woman, daughter and midwife was forever changed by my introduction to birth, and my hope is that everyone on their birthing journey can have this powerful initiation into parenthood.

What are your favourite things about your role?

I got my first midwifery job and entered the hospital system as an excited but naïve new graduate. I quickly discovered that the wonderful experience I witnessed as a teenager was the exception and not the rule. I found the work ethically challenging and misaligned, and I considered leaving the profession. It’s funny looking back at this time before MAMA, because today I find my current work incredibly fulfilling and completely in line with my expectations around family focussed holistic care, and I am honoured to be working in a space that has not once made me doubt my choice of profession.

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

Hi I’m Ella, one of the fabulous team of midwives working at MAMA

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

I’m not exactly sure why I chose to become a midwife but after trying out other careers (including being an engineer and yoga teacher) it was a deep soul yes that this was the work I wanted to being doing. It was also clear to me very quickly that the hospital system was not a place I could imagine myself thriving or offering the kind of care I wanted to give. I was so blessed to be able to step straight into private practice at Mama, right after becoming a mother myself.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

I’m passionate about mothers feeling supported the huge shift and rite of passage that is the perinatal period. Childbearing and child raising asks everything of you – physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. No one should have to navigate this time without love and care and guidance.

What are your favourite things about your role?

MAMA is unique because we have the best team, which allows us to give so much to our clients without depleting ourselves too drastically or taking us away from our own families for too long. The connection we have with our clients and their families is very special too.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

When I’m not at work you might find me swimming, running, gyming or hanging out in nature with my toddler and Golden Retriever.

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

Ellie (she/her), Team Lead Kensington and Caseload Midwife

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

I grew up on my mother's stories of her own birth journeys, both at home and in hospital, and learnt from an early age the special role midwives hold in guiding women and their families to be informed and supported as they journey to meet their babies. My family has also experienced pregnancy loss and I've witnessed what occurs in the absence of holistic, family-centred care. These experiences led me to my midwifery journey and my passion for continuity of midwifery care.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

I am incredibly passionate about supporting women and their families to make informed and autonomous decisions, and providing individualised, family centred care. I love witnessing families journey from our first appointment together, through their births and postpartum and seeing the incredible transformation that occurs. Not just for the woman/birthing person and their baby, but for those important to them.

What are your favourite things about your role?

MAMA holistic philosophy is what makes us a family. When women fully engage with the entire MAMA team and you witness the benefits that the love and support from midwives, Allied Health and Lactation Consultants has in contributing to positive outcomes... It's magic!!

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

When I’m not midwifing, I’m spending time with my partner and our menagerie of animals; watching Netflix; having a coffee with friends, or tending to my jungle of indoor plants.

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

Lindsey, I work as an endorsed midwife and in a casual position as a lactation consultant

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

I am passionate to work with mothers, babies and families to feel truly connected and embodied through providing loving support.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

I am passionate to work with mothers, babies and families to feel truly connected and embodied through providing loving support.

What are your favourite things about your role?

MAMA is unique in that it is a hub not only for midwifery but many other modalities that support the well-being of mother's and babies.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

I enjoy sitting in stillness, dancing, listening to music, reading, writing, studying, cooking and swimming.

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

Marita Howard, works as PPM at MAMA and have been there for almost 10 years

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

It was Jan Ireland who inspired initally to work at MAMA, she was my midwife over 23 years ago for my first birth.  I always had great respect for my 2 midwives for Joels birth and the positive impact they both had during my first birthing experience. I was working at MMC at time and would run in to her often with her own private clients coming in to give birth. Every time I saw her, she would tell me excitedly about her plans to open her own midwifery clinic. It was the right time to move out of the system and embark into private practice when my youngest daughter started school.  This was also the time I had started to feel completely disheartened by the hospital system; with the closure of the birth centre model, I had grown to love. It was my chance to make a difference and support women in the way I knew I could. I have worked in many areas over my long midwifery career but had been happiest when I had worked in the UK on a Community MW role and was able to experience continuity of care and attends my first home births.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

I am passionate about being with women and families, supporting them through their journeys to motherhood.  After having 3 very different birth experiences myself, I can appreciate the individual journeys other women embark and support them through their own.

What are your favourite things about your role?

I can meet so many different women and families, get to know them, have a good laugh and a cry. I love nothing more than to have a good chat and discover what is important for families which enables me to individualise their care.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

When I am not at work, you will find me at home with my hubby and 3 almost grown children. I love to listen to crime thrillers, podcasts and watch whatever takes my fancy on a choice of streaming devices. On a good day I love to walk around our local area or head to Cowes for a weekend away. I enjoy pottering in my new kitchen or heading out for a nice meal. I have 12 siblings, so not uncommon for a special family birthday or event to take me out for a day here and there. I have the privilege to be there for a good handful of family babies over the years too.

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

Rachel, a Midwife and Educator at MAMA.

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

I was born and raised in the beautiful Lake District in England, with 3 years also spent living in Italy. I obtained my BA (Hons) Midwifery degree from the University of York, England, in 2010-2013. It was during this training that I opted to take a month-long elective placement in Melbourne with MAMA, and it was here that planted the seed for my passion for caseloading, homebirth and empowering women and their families. Between 2013-2016, I worked for a caseloading midwifery practice in Cheshire, England, providing full continuity of care and homebirths. During this time I also trained as a hypnobirthing teacher.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

I believe in providing individualised, holistic care, supporting women to make informed choices, and staying true to midwifery. I am particularly passionate about postnatal care and breastfeeding support, and love supporting families through the magic and challenges of the first 6 weeks postpartum. I also have a strong interest in nutrition and holistic health, and enjoy working collaboratively with allied health practitioners to provide the best care.

What are your favourite things about your role?

I moved to Melbourne, Australia in 2016, to settle in the country I love and work at the place which has my heart - MAMA. I jumped straight into undertaking postgraduate studies to become an endorsed midwife, and also became a shared care affiliate with multiple public hospitals. My first 6 years at MAMA were spent as a caseloading midwife, providing the full spectrum of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. I also taught group parent education classes during this time. In 2022 I decided to take a break from on-call life after spending the previous 9 years on call 24/7! Since then, I have continued to provide antenatal and postnatal care at MAMA, and have taken on a larger educator role. I teach all of the student midwife workshops at MAMA, and teach private 1:1 parent education classes in both labour/birth and breastfeeding/newborn care. I also teach group parent education classes in infant and child first aid.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

I live Bayside Melbourne with my 2 beautiful cats. I can often be found walking the coastal trails, and in warmer weather, going for a swim. I love being out in nature - I grew up in the lakes, mountains and forests, and that is what my heart craves! Getting out of the city for day trips is good for my soul - the Mornington Peninsula is a favourite spot! I also love reading, poetry, theatre, drawing, piano playing, catching up with friends, and I am always trying to learn new things!

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

Hi, my name is Sari and I am proud to say I am a MAMA midwife!

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

I have been fascinated by pregnancy and babies since I was very young, and the idea of midwifery always appealed to me, but for a long time I believed a midwife was a wise old woman who served mothers in her village (I mean, that’s actually not too far off!) I always figured that’s what I’d do late in my life, until one day I caught up with a friend from high school who told me she was going to university to study midwifery. It blew my mind that you could just go to uni and learn how to be a midwife! I followed her lead I have never looked back.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

I love getting to know pregnant people and their families, and what’s important to them, so that I am better able to support them through the transition into parenthood or during the growth of their existing family. My favourite thing about being a midwife is seeing non-birthing parents cry when their child is born! I really recognise what a privilege it is to be invited into someone's birth space and I don’t take this for granted.

What are your favourite things about your role?

I was fortunate enough to be cared for by MAMA midwives Kelly and Siobhan during my first pregnancy and birth. Some of the most special memories of my life are waddling into Kensington each week with my expanding belly for my antenatal appointments, acupuncture, chiropractic, physiotherapy and yoga. It’s such a happy place, and now I get to watch people from the other side of that experience. It’s pretty special.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

I live in Williamstown, where I love walking along the beach with my wonderful husband, our delicious little boy and our Labradoodle. Working mum life is pretty busy, and I’m learning how to get my own needs met so I am able to take better care of my family and clients. For me that means making time for yoga, reading (paperback) books, crocheting and leaving half drank cups of tea around the house.

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

My name is Veronica. I am a registered nurse and midwife and I am the team leader for the Hampton and Warragul clinics.

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

I have done so many different jobs before I worked at MAMA but this is just the most lovely place to work.  I have worked in the public hospital system as a midwife and midwifery educator, and have also worked privately providing homebirth services for many years. The part about MAMA that is most special to me is the team here.  These are some of the best midwives around and I love that if I can't make it to a birth for any reason the women that I care about will be looked after beautifully by one of my team members.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

Everything that I do at MAMA centres around the women that I care for and wanting them to have the most amazing experience.  My own experience of birth, breastfeeding and early parenthood are some of the most intense emotional experiences of my life and the memories from those experiences never leave.  I hope that whatever support I provide can help make positive memories for other people through this time.

What are your favourite things about your role?

It's hard to say what is my favourite thing about my role.  I enjoy the banter with my midwifery colleagues and looking after women and their families is very rewarding.  I can't imagine ever wanting to do anything else.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

When I am not at work I live a very busy life looking after 4 kids, renovating houses, studying and just generally being really terrible at self care.

Education

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

I’m Hayley, I am an endorsed midwife & work as an educator and as the education manager here at MAMA.

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

When caring for families as a midwife in the public maternity system, I consistently found myself craving more time to answer the wonderfully curious questions that they had – which led me to education.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

I’m increasingly passionate about parents stepping into their power - entering birth with self-trust & emerging into parenthood with confidence. I’m also passionate about having ample time to expose people to different perspectives, share some laughs, cultivate connections with me and other parents & reassure them that their internal knowing will combine with what they learn so that they can make the right choices for their family.

What are your favourite things about your role?

When I first walked into MAMA, I saw women attending appointments & hugging their midwives. I commented that it looked like they were being brought into somebody’s sitting room for a cup of tea & a far cry from the version of midwifery that I was used to in tertiary hospitals. MAMA midwives inspired me to reevaluate what midwifery meant to me after a season of burnout, complete further training and open my mindset to working in a different way. Truly, it lit me back up & showed me what burning passion feels like as a midwife. I’m now embarking on my own journey to offering private midwifery care in Brisbane. There is something powerful in being part of a team who are so passionate about holistic care – it inspires you to continue growing. Being an expat, MAMA has been a grounding presence & a massive part of my community in my home away from home.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

In my down time, you’ll currently find me annoying my new puppy with kisses while he tries to sleep. When I'm not obsessing over my fur baby, my life is filled with the magic of ordinary moments – being with friends, videochatting my family until the next visit home, laughing with my partner, putting my toes in the sand, listening to every episode of my fav podcasts, camping, travelling & reading books galore.

  • What’s your name and role at MAMA?

My name is Abby and I’m one of MAMA’s childbirth educators and also an MGP midwife at Joan Kirner hospital.

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

I’ve been drawn to midwifery since I was little and still struggle to explain why. The pull was deep and inescapable. I had a sense, the way children do about things, that birth - and the bonds formed at birth - hold all the most important secrets about our world. I also sensed I would never be at my happiest unless worked with women and babies. I now know both of these to be true.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

MAMA is special to me for so many reasons, above all because it feels like home. There’s nothing I’d trade for the warmth and sense of belonging gained from working in a team that shares the same core values. I remember my first time walking into MAMA instantly being met with hugs and real connection …and it has been the same way ever since.

What are your favourite things about your role?

I am most passionate about expanding access to midwifery continuity of care across our country - particularly to indigenous, culturally and linguistically diverse families. In addition to my midwifery degree I also hold a Bachelor of International Studies, which is where this passion emerges from. This experience allowed me to travel to India and Africa working in maternal health and studying issues of reproductive justice. My midwifery position at present is in Galinjera, which is the MGP team for all First Nations families that come through our hospital.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

I live in St Kilda with my adoring partner, so between time on-call for women and births, I am usually walking along the beach with him, reading books, practicing yoga, napping, and talking about midwifery to anyone who will listen. I also love dancing, singing, hosting gatherings of women, travelling and taking road trips around our beautiful country.

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

Seb (she/her) - Childbirth Educator at MAMA and Registered Midwife/Nurse working within public maternity care.

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

As a typical extrovert, having a robust conversation is something I love to do. So naturally, teaching about midwifery and all it comes with fills my cup! My initial pull to midwifery came whilst living abroad in Israel - my second home. I witnessed countless missed opportunities for supporting and nourishing women's health within my own community and wished to be the change. This has led me to seek work in more culturally diverse spaces; both in my own and within other communities, with a hope to foster strength within women and the belief in themselves.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

Many of us come with deep-seated ideas about healthcare, the power of women, what family means, where we hold community, and how we love. My passion is to dovetail all those elements with evidence-based midwifery practice, and sometimes be a little goofy in the process. After all, laughter is a language we all understand!

What are your favourite things about your role?

MAMA truly practices midwifery with heart, fusing evidence-based practice with empathy and trust. I resonate with this very much.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

To wind down, I love to peruse markets, op shops and anywhere with special treasures. I also love to swim, boogie, sip chai with a friend, or hang out with my awesome husband, Jesse.

My name is Stella and I am a childbirth educator at MAMA. I'm also a registered midwife working in the public maternity care system

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

I have always been passionate about midwifery, my calling to the profession began at age thirteen and I have been pursuing and living out that dream ever since. I believe childbirth education is such an essential part of birthing people having an empowered and positive birth experience, so I feel excited and honoured to be a part of that knowledge sharing at MAMA. Whilst I find my clinical work in the hospital system rewarding and miraculous, it can also be challenging, and it fills my cup to meet individuals and couples through entering this exciting life stage and to learn alongside them.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

I love the varied and thoughtful questions and conversations that inevitably come up when teaching childbirth education, I love how keen mothers and birthing people are to learn about this complex and beautiful world of labour and birth. I also feel excited by the ever-changing landscape of birth knowledge - we are learning new things all the time! MAMA is such a wonderful place to teach and learn, with so many passionate and talented people providing full spectrum, holistic, nurturing care and education to pregnant folk and their families.

What are your favourite things about your role?

I love when birth partners and support people get excited and involved - there's nothing that tickles me more than when a dad-to-be is writing notes during class!

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

When I'm not working I'm mostly likely to be doing some kind of crafty project, working on a puzzle, hanging out with my awesome husband, or walking around our local area trying to spot cute dogs. I'm a big fan of a good cappuccino, and I'll catch a musical theatre performance whenever I can.

To be given an opportunity to work with families surrounded by the team at MAMA, alongside incredibly caring, professional, and respectful healthcare providers is a dream job that I am so very grateful for.

Everyone is welcomed with open arms; care is personalised, evidence-based, inclusive and extremely supportive.

I have been told I am a compassionate, caring and respectful practitioner, and being able to support a family as they achieve their personal feeding goals is so special to witness.

I love spending time with my husband Marty and adult kids (Harry, Zoe and Charlie), as well as family and friends at our beach shack on the Mornington Peninsula. If at home, baking, always baking! Otherwise, my family and I enjoy exploring locally and abroad. We enjoy a roadtrip as much as a holiday overseas and like to centre our adventures around different cities, scouting out nature and enjoying a good feed.

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

Bonnie Maplestone, Osteopath and Prenatal yoga teacher. B.H.SC/B.APP.SC (Osteopath). I have an Advanced Diploma in Yoga Teaching and have taught for over 20 years. I also work as a doula. I am a mother of two and have furthered my education in osteopathic treatment of babies and internal pelvic release and pelvic health.

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

I was teaching yoga and had the highest qualification I could get in Melbourne. I wanted to study something complementary to my yoga work, so I chose Osteopathy. Osteopathy is a five-year full-time commitment. Before doing Osteopathy, I enrolled in a Doula course to see if I could commit to five years of study as a mature student in the yoga business. I finished the doula course and completed the osteopathy qualifications in five years while I had my two children. It was a wild ride in which I had fertility issues, including a miscarriage. Pregnancy issues, including morning sickness and Pelvic instability, then I gave birth to a 4.1kg baby at 42-week gestation with no drugs. Postpartum, I had a uterine infection and an autoimmune condition. My second baby was born at 35 weeks via cesarian with a 2.5-week stay in the special care nursery for jaundice and feeding issues. At the end of those five years, with two healthy children, I had a moment where I realized I was a qualified osteopath, Doula, and Yoga teacher. I have gone through a wide range of personal experiences. This meant I was in a unique position to combine all my learning with my understanding and lived experience to help parents find some of the answers I couldn't find until after I had my babies.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

I am very passionate about supporting parents. Becoming a parent is hard, and we don't acknowledge it enough. When parents find parenting hard, they think they have failed. Parenthood is a different set of skills you have never had to use before. You must also get to know a tiny human and everything that makes that baby them. Hard is normal. Hard work is not bad; it is rewarding, and just because you're finding it hard doesn't mean you're doing a lousy job. You're learning, your baby is learning, and you might just need a little help. I love helping parents, and when I see them come into the clinic a couple of months later and they look like parenting professionals, it's nice to think that maybe I had a hand in supporting their journey.

What are your favourite things about your role?

We talk a lot about how it takes a village to raise a baby and that, in the olden days, new parents had a community to help with their transition to parenthood. Modern-day parenting is often lonely; we get many answers from the internet or books that differ from our parent's journey. MAMA is fantastic community support; many healthcare professionals work predominantly on the journey to and beyond parenthood. All the Professionals here work together to truly support parents and babies through a trip you don't get a map for.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

Playing with my children. I love my work and my kids, and I don't have much time for anything else right now.

  • Name/role at MAMA/any other identifying info that is important to you:

    Britt - Chiropractor at MAMA

What inspired you initially to work as a chiropractor?

My journey into chiropractic care began early in life when my family and I regularly visited a chiropractor together. I loved seeing a chiropractor and remember the excitement I had for each appointment. During high school, I had the opportunity to explore chiropractic care further through work experience. It was during this time that I solidified my decision to pursue chiropractic as my career path. Since then, I have been wholeheartedly dedicated to this field, driven by a passion for holistic health and a desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.

What is one thing you are passionate about as a chiropractor?

One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is supporting women and their families throughout pregnancy and beyond. It's incredibly fulfilling to be a part of their journey, from prenatal care to postpartum adjustments and caring for their beautiful children/ families. Building strong connections with my patients, contributing to their overall well-being and seeing the positive impact on their lives is what truly drives my passion as a chiropractor.

When you’re not working, where would we find you, what would you be doing and who with?

When I'm not at the clinic, you'll find me enjoying time with my beautiful kids, Archer and Isla, along with my husband Steve and our Labrador, Winston. Our favourite family activity is taking a walk to grab a coffee and spending quality time playing at our local park. I love attending pilates classes in my solo time and exploring for treasures at our nearby op shops.

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

Hi, I'm Julia (she/her), Mums & Bubs Yoga teacher at MAMA, Kensington.

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

I began practising yoga as an aid for reducing stress and anxiety. Through these explorations, I felt compelled to delve deeper; to find more of the equilibrated state of being I experienced, by inviting yogic practices and teachings into my daily life.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

Yoga has greatly supported me throughout my pregnancies and into motherhood, and this, along with my experience as a teacher, energises a particular passion for holding space and educating women on the benefits of yoga, empowering them to trust their bodies and innate capabilities.

When I’m not working, you can find me outdoors with my two boys and husband - we like mini getaways and natural environments to explore together. I also enjoy baking nutritious treats and involving my kids.

  • Name/role at MAMA/any other identifying info that is important to you.

Libby (she/her), Registered Midwife offering Internal Pelvic Release

What inspired you initially to work as a role?

I have been working for the last two years with women, birthing people and families that have experienced complications, unexpected events and trauma within their pregnancy and birthing journey. This often results in physical and psychological symptoms that have the potential to leave lasting effects on a person's enjoyment of life. I started to become interested in birth trauma prevention - was there a way that we could work towards decreasing the severity of preventable birth trauma? A few of my colleagues had completed Fiona Hallinan's Internal Pelvic Release mentorship and as a result of their reviews I signed up! I learnt so much! Women and birthing people are given such a unique opportunity to gain access to the internal muscles of the pelvis via the vagina, and similar to all areas of the body, it can be a place where we hold tension. With gentle hands and intention, using the vagina as the point of entry, tension can be identified and the muscles of the pelvis can then be invited to release and thus creating space and comfort. Women and birthing people are educated and given autonomy to better understand their bodies and how to make the most of the space that they have. In doing this, women and birth givers are more likely to have a more positive outlook of their birth experience. Through doing this mentorship I was able to understand that internal pelvic release could do so much more than assist in decreasing a person's perception of birth trauma, but it can also help those that experience painful sex, birth injuries, birth preparation and menopause.

What is one thing you are passionate about as a role

Education! Knowledge is power, and the more we know about our bodies (especially a part of our bodies that many have been taught to feel shame or embarrassment about) the more we can understand and use it to its full potential.

What are some of your favourite things about your role?

Being able to offer the opportunity for someone to be listened to, seen and validated  for their experiences, intentions and fears.... AND Getting follow up texts from clients!

When you’re not working, where would we find you, what would you be doing and who with?

You will find me in the chicken yard! We have a big backyard with chickens, ducks and a big veggie garden. I love spending time out there fixing things, digging up worms and shooing the hens out of the veggies! Much to my own detriment, I neglect all other chores.  As a family, we love spending the weekends going on a big bike ride to the various local playgrounds, anything that will tire out the endless energy of my 2,4 and 6 year olds! m description

  • What's your name and role at MAMA?

Sonya Edmonds, Clinical Aromatherapist | Massage Therapist specialising in Pregnancy & Postpartum Infant Massage Instructor. I'm also a Midwife, Nurse, Mum to 2 daughters!

What inspired you to work at MAMA?

While in a career as a registered nurse and midwife I was also interested in alternative, natural treatment options for patients as well as my family. My introduction to aromatherapy was the surprising catalyst that changed my career path. This led to years of study and practice in aromatherapy and massage. Essential oils were a valuable tool during my own two pregnancies and births – and for getting through just about every day since! I wanted to develop a service where women could be assured they were receiving expert advice and care. Based on my qualifications, experience and passion I set up my company Mother Nurture (https://mothernurture.net.au/) to focus on personalised, natural care of parents, parents to be and their families. This included massage treatments, specialising in pregnancy, postnatal and women’s health. Becoming a Certified Infant Massage Instructor complemented my role and I’ve recently completed training in Gentle Scar Therapy.

What are you passionate about at MAMA?

I am passionate about the natural healing properties of essential oils and the ability to tailor my massage treatments to the individual. I love the continuity of care in this role; supporting women through their pregnancy, birth, postpartum and beyond…into the next pregnancy…and for many years after!

What are your favourite things about your role?

I have been practising at MAMA for over 11 years now. I love being a part if this special, supportive, nurturing space for parents, parents- to-be and families.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

In the few hours I’m not working in or on my business, you’ll find me doing yoga, dancing or trying out new healthy recipes. I love spending quality time with family and friends, and catching precious moments with my teenage daughters (yes, they’re still happy to hang out with their ol’ mum :)
