Olivia Paine

Hi, I’m Liv, and I am a midwife in the wonderful team at MAMA

What inspired you initially to work as your role?

After my career in professional ballet was cut short due to injury, I began searching for a new path that felt purposeful. Around that time, a friend shared their birth story with me, and it sparked a curiosity about birth that really stayed with me. Inspired, I took a leap of faith, enrolled in a midwifery degree, and quickly realised I’d found something that truly lit me up.

As I moved through my studies, it became clear that working in a continuity model was where I felt most aligned. Not only because it’s the gold standard of maternity care, but because of the relationships you have the privilege of building with women and birthing people.

That’s what drew me to MAMA, a model of care that reflects the kind of midwifery I value most.

What is one thing you are passionate about at MAMA?

I’m really passionate about individualised, relationship-based care. Taking the time to build genuine connections with women and birthing people is what truly fills my cup. Learning who they are and what they value most allows me to support families to feel informed and empowered to make choices that feel right for them.

I aim to create a space where families feel at ease in my care, with room for honest conversation, warmth, and a few laughs along the way.

What makes MAMA special to you?

MAMA is incredibly special to me because I get to work alongside such a supportive and collaborative team of like-minded midwives. The collective knowledge and wisdom within the team is quite remarkable, and I feel genuinely privileged to learn from and practice alongside such brilliant midwives.

Where would we find you outside of MAMA?

On my days off, I love soaking up summer days at the beach, tackling DIY home renovations with my husband (with varying degrees of success), sharing great food with friends, and indulging in my ever-growing list of hobbies, which currently involves sewing, knitting, and horse riding.
