How we met our beautiful Isla Scout 💕The birth was everything I had hoped for and more (minus the lack of water haha)! For the second time I had a magical and empowering birth at home that left me inspired and in awe of how amazing the human body is.
Here is the story of how we met our beautiful Isla Scout 💕
At 39+2 early labour started on the Saturday of the Easter long weekend. I woke up exhausted that morning and decided to take myself off for a swim. During that swim I was having what I thought were Braxton hicks but once I got out of the pool, I realised that they were actually contractions and baby girl was getting ready to meet us.
I laboured at home for the day just enjoying rest and the last moments as a family of 3.
By the evening the contractions became more intense and frequent so we called our midwives to come.
As soon as they arrived baby girl decided that she wasn’t ready after all and my labour completely stalled.
Our beautiful midwives Charlotte and Marita decided to stay and encouraged me to rest to see if that would help my body along.
We woke on Easter Sunday to no changes, so our midwives went home with the premise to call if things change. I felt very defeated at this point as things had started so strong and now could be so far away from happening.
We decided to go on a walk which definitely helped things along. I thought my contractions were intense but this walk really got things moving, when I got home my waters broke. It wasn’t the gush I had in my first labour, so I didn’t think too much of it. But shortly after that things really intensified.
After my previous false start, I was hesitant to call Charlotte and Marita again too soon…
Labour started progressing a lot faster than I had realised and before I knew it I was feeling the urge to push...with no midwife arrival and no birth pool set up!
Charlotte arrived to find me pushing squatted over the toilet with my husband very calmly supporting me, I felt stuck in this position so she helped me into a more comfortable position on the floor. I had really hoped for a water birth but there was no time for that now.
Marita arrived as I was pushing with some guidance from Charlotte and then 10 minutes later our baby Isla was born.
We went to the couch for some cuddles to soak our girl in, and then I retreated back to the bathroom to deliver the placenta.
The birth was everything I had hoped for and more (minus the lack of water haha)!
Another magical and empowering birth at home that left me inspired and in awe of how amazing the human body is.
